Install novolto Sense

Novolto Sense is offered for Germany only. These setup instructions apply to supported German meter installations.

Preparation

Have your Wi-Fi password ready. If your electricity meter requires a PIN for additional readings, have that ready as well.

Preparation

Unlock electricity meter

Request PIN

Request the PIN for your electricity meter from your metering point operator.

Unlock electricity meter

If your meter requires a PIN, enter it directly into the electricity meter.

Change settings

Set PIN = Off and INF = On.

Assembly

Install novolto Sense

Attach read head

Attach the infrared read head to the optical interface of your electricity meter.

Cable downwards

Align the cable as vertically as possible downwards.

Place wireless module

Place the wireless module outside the meter cabinet to ensure a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Setup

Connect to Wi-Fi

Connect to the novolto Sense Wi-Fi

1. Connect to novolto-XXXXXX

Open 192.168.2.1 in your browser

2. Open 192.168.2.1

Select home Wi-Fi for novolto Sense

4. Select home Wi-Fi

Enter Wi-Fi password for novolto Sense

5. Enter Wi-Fi password

6. Restart device

Connect device

Connect novolto Sense to the power supply. The LED will initially pulse red.

Turn on hotspot

Press the button on the device. Once the LED lights up solid blue, the setup hotspot is active.

Connect to the Sense Wi-Fi

Open the Wi-Fi settings on your smartphone or computer and connect to:

Open settings page

Then open in your browser:

192.168.2.1

Select home network

Open the Network section, select your Wi-Fi, and enter the Wi-Fi password. Then restart the device.

Is the page 192.168.2.1 not opening?

Temporarily deactivate your smartphone's mobile data and check whether you are still connected to the novolto-XXXXXX Wi-Fi.

Pulsing red

The device is not connected to the Wi-Fi.

Sense LED blue solid

Permanently blue

The setup hotspot is active.

Sense LED yellow pulsating

Pulsing yellow

The Wi-Fi is connected, but no data is being received from the electricity meter. Check the infrared reading head.

The device is functioning and transmitting meter data.

App

Add Sense to the novolto app

Settings → Electricity meter → novolto

Then enter the serial number and the PIN of your novolto Sense.

HELP

Common problems

Here you will find solutions to the most frequently asked questions about setting up the novolto Sense.

The Wi-Fi connection is not working. The LED is pulsing yellow The Wi-Fi signal is too weak. The settings page cannot be opened. I require further assistance.
Check compatibility

Check your Wi-Fi password and repeat the setup process. If the password is entered incorrectly, an automatic error message may not be displayed.

Check whether the infrared read head is correctly positioned on the optical interface and whether the cable is pointing straight down.

Also, check that PIN = Off and INF = On are set on the electricity meter.

Place the wireless module outside the meter cabinet. A closed metal cabinet can significantly weaken the Wi-Fi signal.

Check whether your device is still connected to novolto-XXXXXX.

If using a smartphone, temporarily disable mobile data and then open 192.168.2.1 again.

It is best to send support a photo of your electricity meter, the model designation, and the current LED status.
